DynaVap Guide: How the Vaporizer Works Without a Battery

DynaVap M7 Vaporizer ohne Akku

A DynaVap is a mechanical vaporizer with no battery and no electronics. You heat the metal cap from the outside with a torch lighter or an induction heater. When the cap reaches its target temperature of around 240 °C according to the manufacturer, it clicks audibly. It clicks again as it cools down. After that, you can reheat.

Does a DynaVap need a battery?

No. According to the DynaVap FAQ, the devices require “no batteries or electronics”. The heat comes from an external source, such as a flame or an induction heater.

At its core, a DynaVap consists of just a few parts:

  • Tip: the chamber for the filling material, made of stainless steel or titanium depending on the model, with a screen (CCD) and O-rings.
  • Cap: the cap that is placed over the tip and heated. Inside it are two metal discs that snap together at the target temperature.
  • Stem or midsection: the body of the device, made of stainless steel, titanium, silicone or wood depending on the model.
  • Condenser and mouthpiece: the vapor flows through the condenser to the mouthpiece. On many models, the airflow can be adjusted here.

Because there are no electronics, there is no charging either. Only the separate induction heater has a battery: the FAQ names the Ispire Wand for this, which runs on batteries.

How do I know the DynaVap is hot enough?

By a click from the cap. According to the FAQ, two metal discs in the cap snap together when the temperature is reached, which you can hear and feel.

The click temperature depends on the cap. The manufacturer specifies it as follows:

  • Captive Cap: around 240 °C (± 10 °C)
  • Standard Cap: around 240 °C (± 10 °C)
  • Low Temp Cap: around 215 °C (± 10 °C)

Elsewhere in the FAQ, a range of 230–250 °C is given for the click. According to the FAQ, it is normal for the cap to click once or twice while heating up or cooling down. It is best to test the click in a quiet environment. For a test run without filling material, the FAQ gives the following tip: do not fill the tip and heat the cap until you hear the click.

How do I use a DynaVap? Step-by-step instructions

You remove the cap, fill the tip, put the cap back on and heat it until it clicks. After the cool-down click, you can heat it again. The steps follow DynaVap's official how-to page:

  1. Remove the cap. Pull the cap off the tip.
  2. Fill the tip. Fill the tip with dried herbs. According to DynaVap's beginner article, you should grind it finely and not pack it too tightly. A light tap is enough.
  3. Put the cap back on. The cap must sit firmly. The device is then ready to heat.
  4. Heat the cap. According to the how-to page, hold the flame about 1 inch (approx. 2.5 cm) away from the cap and rotate the device evenly. According to the FAQ, heat the middle and rear part of the cap, not the front end.
  5. Listen for the click. With a torch lighter, this takes about 7 seconds according to the how-to page. According to the FAQ, it takes 3–6 seconds with a titanium tip. A stainless steel tip takes longer. As soon as the cap clicks, remove the flame.
  6. Draw the vapor. Draw evenly on the mouthpiece.
  7. Wait for the cool-down. The cap clicks a second time as it cools down. According to the FAQ, with a titanium tip this happens about 30 seconds after the first click. Only then may you heat again.
  8. Reheat or store. According to the manufacturer, 2–4 heating cycles per fill are typical. After that, you heat again or store the device.

What heat source do I need for a DynaVap?

DynaVap recommends a butane torch lighter or an induction heater. Both are stated in the FAQ and on the product pages.

  • Torch lighter: the FAQ recommends a butane torch lighter for optimal results. The M7, M7 XL and B2 come with a single-flame DynaTorch, which is supplied empty.
  • Soft-flame lighter: according to the FAQ, it works, but heating up then takes about 15 seconds.
  • Induction heater: you insert the cap into the heater, wait for the click, take the device out and draw. This is how DynaVap describes it in its torch guide. The B2 product page lists “The Wand Induction Heater” as compatible.

What safety precautions should I take with a DynaVap?

Never heat beyond the click and wait for the cool-down click before each new cycle. These are the most important manufacturer rules.

  • Do not overheat: the FAQ explicitly warns against heating for more than 3 seconds after the click, as overheating permanently damages the cap. According to DynaVap's instructions, a blue or purple discoloration of the cap indicates that it has been heated for too long.
  • Wait for the cool-down click: according to the FAQ, it is “very important” to wait for the cool-down click before heating again.
  • Hot cap: the cap is hot after heating. If the device still feels too hot after the cool-down click, DynaVap advises waiting longer before you pick it up.
  • Flame: according to the beginner guide, hold the cap just above the flame and not right in it. Rotate the device while doing so to avoid hotspots.
  • No moisture: do not heat the cap if there is moisture in the crimped area or if it has just come out of a liquid. According to the FAQ, this can destroy it.
  • Children and pets: according to the manufacturer, the device must be kept out of reach of children and pets. It is intended for adults only.

How do I clean a DynaVap?

According to the FAQ, you may put metal parts in the dishwasher. The cap is not dishwasher-safe and must not be soaked.

  • According to the FAQ, do not soak the cap and wooden parts. Clean the inside of the cap with a cotton swab.
  • According to DynaVap's instructions, you can soak other metal parts in isopropyl alcohol, but without the cap and O-rings. Let them dry before reassembling.
  • Isopropyl alcohol can dry out O-rings. So remove them beforehand.

You can find detailed step-by-step cleaning instructions in our guide Cleaning a vaporizer.

Which DynaVap model is right for me?

The models differ mainly in material, format and airflow control. The cap-and-click principle is the same for all of them. The table only contains information that DynaVap states on the respective product pages. The manufacturer does not publish lengths in millimeters there.

What is the difference between the M7 and the VonG?

The M7 is made entirely of stainless steel. The VonG X has a titanium body with a stainless steel tip and condenser. The two also differ in airflow control and taper connections.

  • Material: according to the manufacturer, the M7 is “entirely stainless steel”. The VonG X is a hybrid of titanium and stainless steel.
  • Airflow: on the M7 you adjust it via a “Pivot” rocker, on the VonG X by turning the mouthpiece. According to the manufacturer, this mouthpiece control does not work in other DynaVap devices.
  • Connections: the VonG X has a 10 and 14 mm taper on the mouthpiece and a 14 mm taper at both ends of the body.
  • In common: both have a chamber volume of 0.1 g, the Captive Cap and the Adjust-a-Bowl function.

If a longer design is important to you, the M7 XL is the alternative to the M7. DynaVap names more length to hold and a longer path for the vapor to cool down as advantages.

Which tips are available: Helix, Hyper and Halo?

All three tips are made of titanium. According to the manufacturer, Helix and Halo fit standard devices and standard caps. The Hyper Tip, on the other hand, only works with the Hyper Cap.

  • Helix Tip: titanium with a gold DuraDyn finish and triple-helix design with three convection openings. It has thicker chamber walls and an integrated Adjust-a-Bowl function. At just over 3 g, it is the manufacturer's lightest titanium tip according to DynaVap. It comes as standard on the WoodWynd. It fits all standard devices and caps.
  • Hyper Tip: titanium, chamber volume 0.25 g. It fits all DynaVap midsections, for example the M7, B2, VonG X and WoodWynd. According to the manufacturer, however, it works exclusively with the Hyper Cap or the Thermal Hyper Cap. You adjust the airflow via the connection between tip and cap.
  • Halo Tip: titanium with nine fins that taper towards the stem and are intended to limit heat transfer. The crown-shaped opening with seven points makes filling easier. The adjustable chamber holds 0.1 g, or 0.05 g as a half fill. According to the manufacturer, it fits all standard caps and most DynaVap devices.

Which caps are available and which fits which tip?

The Captive Cap and BallR Cap fit all standard tips. The Hyper Cap only fits the Hyper Tip.

  • Captive Cap: this is the signature cap included with most models. It clicks at around 240 °C. According to the FAQ, indentations hold it securely on the tip and distribute the airflow more evenly. It is compatible with all devices.
  • BallR Cap: an elongated stainless steel cap filled with 3 mm stainless steel balls that provide additional mass for heat retention. The perforated design is intended to improve airflow and heat distribution. It fits any standard tip and can be heated with a torch or induction. The manufacturer recommends induction. The click as a temperature indicator is retained.
  • Hyper Cap: a large-chamber cap made of titanium with a scratch-resistant DuraDyn finish. According to the manufacturer, it only works on the Hyper Tip.

Important for compatibility: the FAQ does state that all tips are compatible with all devices. For the Hyper Tip, however, DynaVap explicitly specifies that it only works with the Hyper Cap or the Thermal Hyper Cap. So check the cap before buying.
