How to Clean a Vaporizer: Step-by-Step Guide

Storz & Bickel VEAZY Verschleißteile-Set zur Pflege

To clean a vaporizer, switch it off, disconnect it from power and let it cool down. Brush out the screens and chamber after every use. Soak removable parts such as the cooling unit, mouthpiece or glass – only if the manufacturer allows it – in isopropyl alcohol or warm soapy water, rinse them thoroughly and let them dry completely.

Regular cleaning keeps airflow and flavour consistent and stops residue from building up. Important: every manufacturer sets its own rules on which parts may go in alcohol and which may not. This guide summarises the general steps and then shows what Storz & Bickel, Arizer and DynaVap specifically require in their official instructions.

What do I need to clean a vaporizer?

You need a soft cleaning brush, cotton swabs, a soft cloth and isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol). For soaking, add a small container.

  • Isopropyl alcohol: DynaVap recommends 90% or higher, Arizer specifies 99% for glass parts. Storz & Bickel names isopropyl alcohol without giving a percentage.
  • Cleaning brush: Included with many devices, for example from Storz & Bickel.
  • Cotton swabs: only slightly moistened, never dripping wet.
  • Pipe cleaners: DynaVap recommends them for the inside of the condenser. Storz & Bickel, on the other hand, advises against pipe cleaners for its devices because they can scratch or deform parts.
  • Soft cloth: microfibre or cotton, for the housing and for drying.
  • Container for soaking and optionally tweezers for small screens.
  • Replacement screens: According to Storz & Bickel, heavily soiled or clogged screens are better replaced. You'll find suitable parts under Accessories & Spare Parts.

How do I clean a vaporizer step by step?

Basic cleaning follows the same routine on almost every device: switch off, disassemble, soak removable parts, rinse, dry. Which parts you may soak is stated in the manual for your model.

  1. Switch the device off, disconnect it from the charging cable or power supply and let it cool down completely.
  2. Empty the chamber and remove loose residue from the chamber and screens with the brush.
  3. Remove detachable parts such as the cooling unit, mouthpiece, screens or glass parts. Note where the seals sit.
  4. Place the approved parts in isopropyl alcohol or warm water with a little dish soap. Stick to your manufacturer's soaking time.
  5. Work on stubborn spots with cotton swabs, a brush or – where permitted – pipe cleaners.
  6. Rinse all parts thoroughly under running water. Storz & Bickel specifies at least one minute.
  7. Let everything dry completely before you reassemble the device and heat it up again.
  8. Check parts for cracks, deformation or discolouration and replace damaged parts.

Which parts should I not soak?

The housing, electronics and charging cable must never go in liquid. Soak everything else only if the manufacturer explicitly allows it.

  • Housing and electronics: For the housing of the MIGHTY+ and VENTY, Storz & Bickel only allows a dry or slightly damp cloth. For the VOLCANO HYBRID it explicitly states that the device must not get wet. Arizer warns against immersing desktop devices in water or other liquids.
  • Plastic parts: On the VOLCANO HYBRID, plastic parts may sit in isopropyl alcohol for no more than half an hour.
  • Seals (O-rings): DynaVap advises against soaking O-rings in alcohol because it can dry out the material.
  • Cap and wooden parts on DynaVap: According to DynaVap, you must not soak the cap and wooden parts.

How often should I clean my vaporizer?

Give the screens and chamber a quick brush after every use. How often you need a thorough clean depends on the device and how frequently you use it.

  • Storz & Bickel: Clean the screens with the brush after every use. Clean the cooling unit and mouthpiece thoroughly no later than seven days after last use, sooner if residue is visible.
  • DynaVap: With frequent use, clean thoroughly every one to two weeks; with occasional use, once a month.
  • Arizer: After every use, tap residue out of the glass stem and brush away loose residue before it sets.

What should I keep in mind with isopropyl alcohol?

Isopropyl alcohol is highly flammable. Only clean a device that is switched off and cooled down, and only heat it up again once all parts are completely dry.

  • Don't work near open flames or hot surfaces.
  • Only slightly moisten cotton swabs so no liquid runs into the device.
  • Rinse soaked parts thoroughly with water, as Storz & Bickel and DynaVap specify.
  • DynaVap recommends running a heating cycle without filling after cleaning and checking whether any alcohol smell is still noticeable.

What cleaning rules does each manufacturer set?

The manufacturers differ mainly on soaking times and the dishwasher. The table shows the information from the official instructions.

Manufacturer / device Soak in isopropyl alcohol Do not soak Dishwasher
Storz & Bickel MIGHTY+ / VENTY Cooling unit and chamber screen, max. 30 minutes Housing, USB-C cable Not specified
Storz & Bickel VOLCANO HYBRID Plastic parts max. 30 minutes Device (must not get wet) Not specified
Arizer Glass parts, min. 30 minutes (99%) The device itself Glass parts allowed in the cutlery basket
DynaVap Tip, mid-section, condenser, 15–30 minutes Cap, wooden parts, O-rings Metal devices yes, cap and glass no

How do I clean the Storz & Bickel MIGHTY+, VENTY and VOLCANO?

With Storz & Bickel, you clean the screens with the brush after every use. The cooling unit and chamber screen may be soaked for up to 30 minutes in isopropyl alcohol or for at least 5 minutes in warm soapy water.

MIGHTY+ and VENTY

  1. Switch the device off and disconnect the device and the USB-C cable from power.
  2. Remove the cooling unit and chamber screen.
  3. Place all parts in warm soapy water for at least 5 minutes, or only the cooling unit parts and the chamber screen in isopropyl alcohol for no more than 30 minutes.
  4. Rinse all parts under running water for at least one minute.
  5. Let them dry completely.
  6. Wipe the housing and USB-C cable only with a dry, soft or slightly damp cloth.

For the filling chamber, the brush is usually enough. For sticky residue, use a cotton swab slightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol and make sure no liquid gets into the device. Storz & Bickel advises against methylated spirits, drinking alcohol, vinegar and harsh solvents. You'll find the devices under MIGHTY+ and VENTY.

VOLCANO HYBRID

Before each cleaning, switch off the VOLCANO HYBRID and unplug it. Let the filling chamber, lid and tube set cool down first. Clean the filling chamber parts with isopropyl alcohol and paper or cotton cloths, or with warm water and dish soap. Plastic parts may sit in isopropyl alcohol for no more than half an hour. Wipe the housing only with a slightly damp cloth. According to Storz & Bickel, you don't clean the EASY VALVE balloon and its mouthpiece but replace them every two weeks for hygiene reasons.

How do I clean Arizer glass stems and glass parts?

Soak Arizer glass parts in 99% isopropyl alcohol for at least 30 minutes, rinse them with warm water or in the cutlery basket of the dishwasher and let them dry completely.

  1. Remove the glass stem or glass parts from the device and tap out any residue.
  2. Soak in 99% isopropyl alcohol for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Rinse with warm water or place in the cutlery basket of the dishwasher.
  4. Let dry completely before the next use.

According to Arizer, wipe the device itself only with a dry or slightly damp microfibre cloth. Remove loose residue from the heating chamber by turning the device upside down and gently shaking it out. Arizer explicitly advises against disassembling the device for cleaning or immersing it in liquid. If a glass stem is very dirty, Arizer recommends replacing it. For the Arizer Go, for example, there is the Go Shell Case with glass capsules. You'll find all models in the Arizer collection.

How do I clean a DynaVap?

With a DynaVap, you soak the tip, mid-section and condenser in isopropyl alcohol. The cap, wooden parts and O-rings do not belong in the alcohol bath.

  1. Let the DynaVap cool down completely.
  2. Separate the cap, tip, condenser and mid-section and remove the O-rings.
  3. Soak the tip, mid-section and condenser in isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) for 15–30 minutes, or overnight for heavy residue.
  4. Pull a pipe cleaner dipped in alcohol through the condenser several times.
  5. Clean the tip and screen with cotton swabs or a small brush.
  6. Rinse all parts with warm water and let them dry completely.

Clean the cap only at the opening with a slightly damp cotton swab. According to DynaVap, liquid can remain in the crimped end and reach the click mechanism. DynaVap cares for the O-rings with DynaWax. According to the manufacturer, metal devices are dishwasher-safe, but the cap and glass mouthpieces are not. Do not soak the wooden parts of the WoodWynd. You'll find all models in the DynaVap collection.

Frequently asked questions

Can I clean my vaporizer with methylated spirits?

No, at least not with Storz & Bickel. The manufacturer explicitly lists denatured alcohol, i.e. methylated spirits, among the agents you should avoid, along with drinking alcohol and vinegar. For cleaning, it recommends isopropyl alcohol or warm soapy water.

Can the cooling unit go in the dishwasher?

Storz & Bickel only describes hand cleaning for the cooling unit: soak in soapy water or isopropyl alcohol and rinse thoroughly. The manufacturer says nothing about the dishwasher in its cleaning instructions. For DynaVap, metal devices are dishwasher-safe according to the manufacturer, but the cap is not.

How do I clean the screen?

Brush out the screen with the cleaning brush after every use. On the MIGHTY+ and VENTY, the chamber screen may be soaked in isopropyl alcohol for up to 30 minutes. According to Storz & Bickel, replace heavily soiled or clogged screens.
